High level projects awarded at Malta Engineering Excellence Awards 2012


Professor Joseph Mifsud, Ing. Carmel Cuschieri and Hoter Ltd were the proud winners of the 11th edition of the Malta Engineering Excellence Awards (MEEA) 2012.

Over 250 engineers and guests attended this year’s ceremony, which is organised annually by the Chamber of Engineers (CoE). The MEEAs are an opportunity to recognise the capabilities of engineers in Malta, and is a flagship event of the CoE. CoE President Ing. Saviour Baldacchino and Lieutenant Commander William Woytyra, representing the United States Embassy presented the awards.

The award for Industrial Excellence was awarded to Hoter Ltd, run by Ing. Marco Cremona of Sustech Consulting.  Ing. Cremona has invented, built and tested the HOTER process leading to the development of the world’s first sewage-to-potable water plant for hotels and large commercial buildings. The HOTER process meets all the 1st class and 2nd class water needs of a hotel, safely and reliably, with the product water from the process meeting and exceeding EU Drinking Water standards.

CoE in discussions with Engineering Board on Engineering Act

The Chamber of Engineers and the Engineering Board have met on a number of occasions, in order to discuss the Engineering Act. Arising from these discussions, a Legal Notice listing changes to the Engineering Act was recently compiled by the Engineering Board and published.

Workshop: Green Business Trends: Carbon Footprint

The  Chamber of Engineers in collaboration with the Malta Institute of Management (MIM) are organising a 1.5 hour workshop titled: ‘Green Business Trends: Carbon Footprint’ by Mr. Sérgio Teixeira Santos, Director ‐ E‐Mission, Portugal (http://www.e-missionneutral.com/en/) which will be held on Monday 12th November 2012 between 18:00h-19.30h at the Professional Centre, Sliema Road, Gzira.

This event is free for CoE and MIM members, other participants can attend at Euro 5 payable at the door.

CoE holds bilateral meeting with Engineers Ireland

In October, the Chamber held a bilateral meeting with Engineers Ireland at their headquarters in Dublin. During the meeting various topics of mutual interest were discussed, including continuous professional development, membership grades, engineers licensing and course and employer accreditation.

CoE participates in FEANI General Assembly


In October, the Chamber's delegation lead by President Ing. Saviour Baldacchino participated in the FEANI General Assembly in Rome. During this event, nine countries signed the cooperation agreement regarding issuing the Engineering Card, the professional card for engineers. Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Croatia, Ireland, Luxembourg, Slovenia and the Czech Republic will from next year onwards start issuing this mobility card for engineers who apply for it.

FEANI president Mr Lars Bytoft, announced his resignation during the meeting in Rome for reasons related to increased responsibilities in his home country. Dr Rafael Fernandez Aller, Vice-President of FEANI will assume the role of president for the coming year.
