Final Year Students’ Awards 2013-4

As was customary in previous years, the Chamber of Engineers once more participated in the Final Year Students’ Awards ceremonies for mechanical, electrical and ICT engineering students. CoE President Ing. Norman Zammit represented the Chamber during these events.

Mechanical and Electrical

The Faculty of Engineering held its Final Year Engineering Students’ Projects Exhibition and its award giving ceremony on 3rd July.

Josef Grech was chosen as the winner of the Best Electrical Final Year Project for 2013, with his project entitled ‘Development of a system to acquire and visualise foot posture and plantar pressure’.

Other projects included:

  • Matthias Fenech - Remote Monitoring and Control from a Smartphone or Tablet using a Raspberry PI
  • Shawn Azzopardi – Wave Energy Conversion
  • Nicholas Vassallo – An investigation of Dynamic Control Strategies for Robotic Manipulators
  • David Zammit - The Design, construction & testing of a CHP
  • Mark Calleja - An FPGA-Based Object Tracking System

CoE to hold EGM on 30 August 2014

During the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of 28 February 2014, a motion was proposed by CoE members regarding the review of the Chamber of Engineers statute.  It was agreed that the statute should be revised and the most pertinent issues addressed.

An Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) is being called as per clause 12.1 and 11.6 of the CoE statute for the purpose of ratifying these proposed amendments. The EGM will be held at SmartCity Malta on Saturday 30th August 2014 at 9.00a.m. The agenda will be as follows:

1.       Presentation by the Statute sub-committee regarding the proposed amendments and the rationale behind them
2.       Discussion
3.       Motions and changes to proposed amendments.

In the coming days, the council shall send to all CoE paid up members the proposed amendments to the statute for their scrutiny. In accordance with clause 17.2 of the CoE statute, any motions shall be proposed and seconded at least one week before the EGM. For this reason these should reach Dr. Ing. Daniel Micallef, CoE General Secretary, by not later than 22nd August 2014.

All members are encouraged to attend the EGM. Please note that only 2014 paid up members are eligible to participate in the EGM.

New Council 2014-2015

The Council of the Chamber of Engineers has the pleasure to announce as a result of the AGM held on the 28th February 2014 the following new members were elected to the council of the chamber for a period of 2 years.

Chamber of Engineers holds Annual General Meeting

Four members were elected during the Chamber of Engineer’s Annual General Meeting, which was held on on Friday 28th  February 2014 at the Professional Centre. The meeting was chaired by Chamber President, Ing. Saviour Baldacchino.

In his address, the President reported on the Chamber's administration and governance, financial position, training courses, membership status, communications and public relations, activities with a highlight on flagship events, stakeholder relations and way forward.

Course topics included mobile/crane safe operation, forklift operation, neuro-linguistic programming, heavy plant equipment. Three seminars on specialized topics appealing to engineers were held through the outgoing term, namely, Basic acoustic concepts, Waste management and alternative energy and Working in the cloud with Microsoft. In all, 433 persons participated in these educational events.

The President also covered the topic of membership in some detail, outlining the current membership structure, growth trend and the values of being a Chamber member . Regular efforts are made to reach out to graduate engineers and engineering students. The Chamber continuously  strives  to create new values and benefits for members.
