Chamber holds 13th edition of the Malta Engineering Excellence Awards

On the 5th December 2014, the Chamber of Engineers organised the 13th Edition of the Malta Engineering Excellence Awards under the patronage of H.E. the President of Malta and which this year was held in St. John’s Cavalier in Valletta. The Awards were presented by the Hon. Minister Mr Joe Mizzi and were given in the following categories:

  • The Maurice Debono Lifetime Achievement Award - that was presented to Prof Ing. Joseph Micallef.
  • The Industrial Excellence Award – there were two finalists in this category with the awarded being to Inspectra Limited.
  • The Start-up Entrepreneur Award – In this category there were also two finalists with the result being a tie and hence both were presented with the awarded. These were Ing. Matthew Spiteri (Altern Limted) and Representatives of UoMRacing (University of Malta Racing Association).

The Chamber of Engineers would like to thank its corporate sponsors Bank of Valletta and Citadel Insurance and H.E. Ingr Umberto Di Capua for granting permission to hold the event at St John’s Cavalier and also  the event sponsors: Malta Communications Authority, Water Services Corporation, Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure, Econetique, Alberta Group, Stephen Cordina and AV Warehouse.

Annual General Meeting 2015: Council Elections

Members are advised that the period for nominations for representation on Council has closed and the Chamber of Engineers received four nominations in total. Since the number of vacant positions on the Council will be five, the current nominees were uncontested and will hence get automatically elected. For this reason, kindly be informed that no type of voting shall take place this year. The formal election of each nominee shall take place on the date of the AGM (27th February 2015 at the Professional Centre, Sliema Road, Gzira at 5:45pm).

Chamber to hold Industrial Excellence & Start-up Entrepreneur Seminar

A  seminar will be organized by the Chamber of Engineers. The event will take place on Monday 17th November 2014 at 18:15h at the Professional Centre in Gzira. During the seminar, there will be presentations from the leading companies in the local industry who would have submitted a nomination to participate in the Industrial Excellence Award and the Start-Up Entrepreneur Award.

This seminar is being organised as part of the nomination evaluation process of the  2014 Malta Engineering Excellence Awards (MEEA) organized by the Chamber.  The MEEA will be held under the Distinguished Patronage of the President of Malta on the 5th December 2014, commencing at 20:00pm at St John’s Cavalier, Valletta.

CoE and IEEE Seminar, 10th November 2014

The IEEE, together with the Chamber of Engineers and Bank of Valletta will be holding an event on 10th November at 18:00 at the Professional Centre in Gzira.

Standard on Electrical installation of PV systems

A working group within the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority has recently drafted a standard regarding the electrical safety of photovoltaic installations. The Chamber of Engineers is represented by Ing. Anthony Muscat and Ing. Ray Vassallo within this group. Chamber members are advised to forward their feedback regarding this draft by 16th October 2014.
