CoE congratulates New Dean for Faculty of Engineering
Prof. Betts has been a lecturer at the University of Malta for over the past ten years. His previous posts include Manager of the Steel Outfitting Department at Malta Shipbuilding Co. Ltd, where he worked for over four years, and was involved in the construction of six timber carriers, one tanker and two rig supply vessels. Prof. Betts was also Production Engineer at Stainless Steel Products Ltd. and Remote Sensing Project Engineer at the Euro Mediterranean Centre on Insular Coastal Dynamics.

The Chamber of Engineers would like to congratulate Dr. Ing. John Betts on his appointment as the new Dean within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Malta. Dr. Betts succeeds Prof. Ing. Robert Ghirlando. He is also the new head of the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering.
His research interests include materials selection, laser materials processing, thermal imaging for conservation and composite materials. In this regard, Prof. Betts has contributed to numerous research papers and publications.
The Chamber of Engineers would also like to thank Prof. Ghirlando for his tireless effort and contribution towards the practical and professional development of future engineers. Prof. Ghirlando remains a valued member of the Faculty of Engineering.
Under the guidance of Prof. Betts, the Chamber of Engineers augurs that the Faculty of Engineering will continue to meet the aspirations of the engineering profession while also meeting the demands of the local economy.
