Chamber holds 13th edition of the Malta Engineering Excellence Awards

On the 5th December 2014, the Chamber of Engineers organised the 13th Edition of the Malta Engineering Excellence Awards under the patronage of H.E. the President of Malta and which this year was held in St. John’s Cavalier in Valletta. The Awards were presented by the Hon. Minister Mr Joe Mizzi and were given in the following categories:

  • The Maurice Debono Lifetime Achievement Award - that was presented to Prof Ing. Joseph Micallef.
  • The Industrial Excellence Award – there were two finalists in this category with the awarded being to Inspectra Limited.
  • The Start-up Entrepreneur Award – In this category there were also two finalists with the result being a tie and hence both were presented with the awarded. These were Ing. Matthew Spiteri (Altern Limted) and Representatives of UoMRacing (University of Malta Racing Association).

The Chamber of Engineers would like to thank its corporate sponsors Bank of Valletta and Citadel Insurance and H.E. Ingr Umberto Di Capua for granting permission to hold the event at St John’s Cavalier and also  the event sponsors: Malta Communications Authority, Water Services Corporation, Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure, Econetique, Alberta Group, Stephen Cordina and AV Warehouse.

Annual General Meeting 2015: Council Elections

Members are advised that the period for nominations for representation on Council has closed and the Chamber of Engineers received four nominations in total. Since the number of vacant positions on the Council will be five, the current nominees were uncontested and will hence get automatically elected. For this reason, kindly be informed that no type of voting shall take place this year. The formal election of each nominee shall take place on the date of the AGM (27th February 2015 at the Professional Centre, Sliema Road, Gzira at 5:45pm).

Extraordinary General Meeting Outcome

On 30th August 2014, the Chamber of Engineers held an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) at SmartCity Malta. The EGM was held in order to propose amendments to the CoE statute in response to a motion put forward in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of 2014.

In his introduction, Chamber President Ing. Norman Zammit explained that the aim of setting up the Statute sub-committee was to propose statute amendments as a follow-up to the request from members during the 2014 AGM. This committee, represented by Prof. Robert Ghirlando, presented the proposed amendments to the EGM, allowing present members to suggest their modifications.

CoE to hold EGM on 30 August 2014

During the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of 28 February 2014, a motion was proposed by CoE members regarding the review of the Chamber of Engineers statute.  It was agreed that the statute should be revised and the most pertinent issues addressed.

An Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) is being called as per clause 12.1 and 11.6 of the CoE statute for the purpose of ratifying these proposed amendments. The EGM will be held at SmartCity Malta on Saturday 30th August 2014 at 9.00a.m. The agenda will be as follows:

1.       Presentation by the Statute sub-committee regarding the proposed amendments and the rationale behind them
2.       Discussion
3.       Motions and changes to proposed amendments.

In the coming days, the council shall send to all CoE paid up members the proposed amendments to the statute for their scrutiny. In accordance with clause 17.2 of the CoE statute, any motions shall be proposed and seconded at least one week before the EGM. For this reason these should reach Dr. Ing. Daniel Micallef, CoE General Secretary, by not later than 22nd August 2014.

All members are encouraged to attend the EGM. Please note that only 2014 paid up members are eligible to participate in the EGM.

 
New Council 2014-2015

The Council of the Chamber of Engineers has the pleasure to announce as a result of the AGM held on the 28th February 2014 the following new members were elected to the council of the chamber for a period of 2 years.
